The Stockholm City Council is the midst of re-developing areas of the Slussen, the city center. The idea is to turn a complex nexus of roads, which isn't accessible to pedestrians or byclists, into a greener, more walkable space with shops and cafes.

According to Inhabitat, "The Stockholm City Council invited the two design teams to re-create Slussen, a intersection they refer to as “a black hole in the heart of Stockholm”, and form a pleasant connection between the neighborhoods on each side. Auto and train traffic will be rerouted underground, leaving the ramped surface area free for evening strolls and cappuccino peddlers. Bicycle lanes will line the promenade along the waterfront."

The two firms involved are Swedish Nod Landscape Architects and Danish Big Architects.
