Interface began in 1973 when Ray Anderson recognized the need for flexible floor coverings for the modern office environment. Anderson established operations in LaGrange, Ga., and Interface Flooring Systems (now InterfaceFLOR, LLC) began manufacturing and distributing modular carpet tiles in 1974. In 1994, Ray began to direct our industrial practices to focus on sustainability without sacrificing our business goals. In his book, Mid-Course Correction, Ray discussed his awakening to environmental concerns and presented a model for businesses to achieve sustainability. From that moment forward, our cultural focus has been on global sustainability.

While our change started with Ray in 1994, customers who daily challenge us to do more for the environment shape our culture too. Such encouragement has led us to develop more, better and even greener products, year after year. Delivering product customers need and want affirmed that our sustainability focus was not only good for the environment, but also good for business. Since our founding, Interface has grown into a billion-dollar corporation, named by Fortune as one of the "Most Admired Companies in America" and one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For."

Today, we continue to progress on our own Mission Zero™ commitment to eliminate any negative impact our companies have on the environment by 2020. We develop and implement a broad range of business initiatives and practices to achieve our mission, including QUEST™, Cool Fuel™, Cool Commute™, Fairworks™ and InterfaceRAISE™. We’re excited about the progress we have made towards Mission Zero thus far and we’re looking forward to continuing the journey with you, the members of the Mission Zero community.
