We've been talking about it for months now. On Sunday, we'll move from talking to doing.

That's when we'll pick up the keys for our second office at 21 Main Street in Alpharetta, GA (close to SmokeJacks).

Alpharetta Map - Map of Alpharetta, GA

21 South Main Street, Alpharetta, GA (cool google map)

We already have an office that we really like that is located in-town at 1123 Zonolite Road (literally two doors down from Floataway Cafe). However, with 1350 square feet and 20 people, we're just running out of room.

Why not just get a bigger office?

Well, this experience with Mission Zero has really taught us something. Sometimes in your life you come across a special teacher, a special person, or just a special company. In this case, we met a special company, a special group of people, and a special project all in one - the project of helping to create MissionZero.org with a very special company - Interface.

I won't gush, but suffice it to say that we've been inspired by them to be more thoughtful about not just WHAT we do but HOW we do it. And when I say thoughtful, I'm talking about our environmental footprint. It goes way beyond tossing our cans into the recycling bin (that's still good, though).

In the days and weeks that follow, I'll do my best to talk through some of the challenges we face when it comes to decisions about the new office. For a small business, the path isn't always easy or obvious.

If you're reading this and you have ideas that might help, please volunteer them. Our hope is that by sharing our story we'll help highlight the challenge that small businesses face when it comes to sustainability. Given that MOST people in this country work for small businesses, it stands to reason that small business is where the change has to happen.

And, if you're reading this and haven't joined Mission Zero, please join. It's not just another social network. It's an earnest effort to bring people together to correct our environmental course. We're so bombarded with greenwashing these days, it's tempting to dismiss something that's genuine. Don't make that mistake.

Join in.
